The regulator’s annual data shows the share of active accounts with a deposit limit set rose from 9.6% to 12.6% in the year to March — a 31% increase that the industry has welcomed and campaigners have pointed out still leaves seven accounts in eight with no limit at all.
The increase is concentrated at operators that changed their signup flow to ask about limits before the first deposit, which is now a licence condition. NineLine’s move to opt-out limits, reported on this page in July, goes a step further and will show up in next year’s figures. The operators with the lowest take-up are, according to the data, the ones where the limit setting is more than two taps from the account home.
Every review on this site records where the limit setting is, how many taps it takes and how quickly a decrease applies, in the safer-betting section. The responsible-gambling hub sets out how to use the tools before they are needed.
