Isla Fenwick won the Surrey County Closed under-14 title for the third time in two years, dropping one set across the draw, and Otto Lindqvist took the under-12 title from a set down against the top seed in the semi-final. Ruby Achebe, who entered the under-16 draw ranked eleventh in the county, reached the final.

Two weeks earlier the under-18 team reached the semi-final of the National Club League, the best stage of the competition by a Surrey club since 2011. They lost to the eventual winners on a deciding doubles.

What the results say, and what they do not

Three of the four players named above were entered in events above their level at least four times this year, and two of them lost first-round matches in the spring that we planned for. A county title in July is the visible end of a year that was written down in September.

The full record for the season, including the results that did not go well, is published on the results page each term.
