ALUMNI STORIES

Three players, three routes out

The tour, an American scholarship and a return to coaching. None of them were the best player in their squad at fourteen.

Nathan FerrisATP 214 · Left in 2018

“I was the fourth-best fourteen-year-old in my own squad. Nobody at Rowan Hall told me that mattered.”

Nathan joined the mini pathway at seven and spent four years in the middle of every group he was in. Marta moved him to the full-time programme at fifteen — a year later than his parents wanted — on the argument that his serve needed rebuilding before his tournament schedule grew. He turned professional at nineteen, reached 214 in the world in 2025, and qualified for Wimbledon that summer. He still trains at Rowan Hall in December.

“The written reviews are what got me the scholarship. Six years of them, in one folder.”

Erin came through the junior pathway and the county squad without ever holding a national ranking, and was told at sixteen that the American college route suited her better than the tour. Douglas built her final two years around the events US coaches actually watch. She now plays number three singles for Georgia on a full four-year athletic scholarship, studying sports management.

Georgia WrenWTA 168 · Left in 2016

“I came back to coach the group I grew up in. Half the drills have not changed.”

Georgia reached 168 in the world and won three ITF titles before injuries shortened her season. She returned to Rowan Hall in 2024 as a visiting coach for the elite programme, running two blocks a year alongside her college coaching in the United States, and sits on the panel that awards the academy’s part-funded places.
