Who it is for

The player this is built for

The elite programme is for players who have decided that tennis comes first. They hold a national ranking or an LTA rating of 5.1 and better, they play a full tournament calendar, and they need schooling, physical work, physio and travel arranged around that calendar rather than against it. Entry is by assessment week; twelve places are held at any one time.

Holding a national ranking or LTA rating of 5.1 and better
Ready to train five days a week, mornings and afternoons
Moving to on-site schooling or a flexible school arrangement
Travelling to twenty or more tournament days a year

Coaching structure

How the coaching is organised

Four players to a coach on court, with a lead coach for each athlete and a weekly meeting between the tennis, physical and medical staff. Nothing about a player’s week is decided by one person alone.

Four to a coachBoth daily court blocks run 4:1, regrouped every block by what players are working on.
A lead coach per athleteOwns the annual plan, travels to target events and reports to parents monthly.
Weekly staff meetingTennis, S&C, physio and the study centre review every athlete once a week.
Annual periodised planThe year is built backwards from three target tournament blocks.
Video analysis weeklyEvery Friday: match footage, serve tracking and a written action for the week.
Monthly written reportSent to parents with court, physical, medical and academic notes in one document.

Strength & conditioning

The work off the court

Six hours of athletic work a week, planned in blocks against the tournament calendar. Every athlete is screened at the start of each block and retested at the end, and the results decide what the next block contains.

Daily activation before the first court block
Three gym sessions and two speed sessions a week
Testing at the start and end of every eight-week block
Individual return-to-play plan after any injury
Sleep, hydration and nutrition tracked weekly with the physio

Beyond the court

Everything around the tennis

Five things the elite programme carries that no other programme at Rowan Hall does.

SchoolingAfternoon lessons on site to A-level in a class of no more than eight, taught by Petersfield Tutorial staff. GCSE and A-level exams are sat at Rowan Hall as a registered centre. Players travelling for a tournament take work with them and meet a tutor online.
BoardingSixteen rooms in the Hall for out-of-county and international players, with a resident houseparent, evening prep and all meals. Half-board and weekly boarding are both available.
PhysioA chartered physiotherapist on site five days a week: screening at the start of each block, treatment by appointment, and a written return-to-play plan after any injury.
Tournament travelA Rowan Hall coach travels to every target event. The office handles entries, visas, flights and accommodation, and parents receive a costed itinerary before each trip.
Video analysisEvery match filmed, tagged and reviewed on Friday afternoon. Serve speed and placement, rally length and first-strike patterns are tracked across the season for each player.
