Who it is for

The player this is built for

Squad players are competing already. They have a county ranking or an LTA rating of 8.2 and better, they enter eight to twelve tournaments a year, and they want a training week built around the events on their calendar rather than around a fixed lesson slot. Selection is by trial at the end of August, and places are reviewed at the end of each term.

Competing in county closed events or Grade 4 tournaments
Able to commit to three weekday evenings and Saturday morning
Staying in mainstream school and training around it
Willing to follow an individual S&C programme between sessions

Coaching structure

How the coaching is organised

Squads run four players to a coach, grouped by standard rather than by age. Every player has one named lead coach who owns their plan, writes their termly review and travels to selected tournaments.

Four to a coachEvery court block runs 4:1, in three squads set by standard: Green, County and National.
A named lead coachOne coach owns each player’s technical plan, review and tournament schedule for the year.
Eight-week blocksEach term splits into a technical block and a match-play block, both ending in an assessment.
Individual lessonsOne-to-ones are bookable at member rates and timetabled around squad sessions.
Video every blockServe and forehand filmed at the start and end of each block, reviewed with the player.
Termly written reviewParents receive a written assessment and a fifteen-minute meeting each term.

Strength & conditioning

The work off the court

Two hours a week with Sam Okafor in the S&C suite, plus a programme to run at home or at school. Squad players are screened for movement and joint range at the start of every term, and load is planned down in the fortnight before a target tournament.

Movement screening each term, with a written report
Deceleration, change of direction and landing mechanics
Shoulder and hip care built into every session
Individual home programme, reviewed monthly
Training load reduced before target tournaments

Questions

Before you
ask us

The things parents and players ask most often about performance squads.

Squad places are filled at the August trial. Players attend a two-hour session with a match, and the coaching team offers places within a week. If a place comes up mid-year, we will invite you to train with the squad for a week first.

Trials for the 2026/27 squads
