Route to the FNCS Major: how the trio rebuilt their endgame

Two seasons ago the Polaris trio lost more endgames than it won. This season it has the highest average placement of any roster in the org, and the difference is a rotation the three of them drill every morning before scrims.

The change started after Major 1, when Wren and I went through every game the trio had dropped out of before the final two circles. Nine of the eleven came from the same place: a late move off a contested north edge into a fight the trio had no reason to take.

Storm side, two circles ahead

The fix was to call the rotation two circles early and to prefer the storm side of the zone even when it looked worse on the map. It costs a few placements early. It has been worth an average of eleven points a round since.

• Average placement 4.8, from 9.1 last season.
• Twenty-four top-ten finishes in Chapter 6, the most in the lobby.
• Endgame survival rate 71%, led by Otto.
