The old box
A wooden bench, forty men, one telephone at the end of a corridor and a queue. Reports were dictated in the order the queue allowed, which is why so many old accounts of the same match disagree about when the second goal went in.
The final
The new box opened for a final. Sixty seats, sixty telephones, and for the first time every paper in the country had the same kick-off time and the same goal times. The disagreement moved from the facts to the opinions, where it has stayed.
