Rosters turn over in June, the models keep running on last season\u2019s minutes, and for about three weeks the prices on continental basketball are softer than they have any right to be. This year the gap is wider than usual.<\/p><h2 id=\"the-market-has-not-caught-up\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The market has not caught up<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between the four qualified teams, <strong>eleven rotation players changed clubs<\/strong> since the last competitive fixture. Two of those moves involved starting point guards. The pricing on tempo-dependent markets \u2014 totals above all \u2014 is still anchored to a version of these teams that no longer exists.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is not a criticism of the books. It is a structural lag: the sample is small, preseason data is noisy, and nobody wants to move a line 4.5 points on the strength of three friendlies. But it does mean the first two rounds are priced on assumptions rather than evidence.<\/p><blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote anps-post__pull is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The edge is not in knowing who wins. Strip those minutes out, redistribute them at each squad\u2019s replacement-level efficiency, and the projected point differentials move by between 2.1 and 5.4 points a game. The market has moved by roughly half that.<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Ellisford<\/strong> \u2014 lost 31% of assisted possessions; the pace projection drops hardest here.<\/li><li><strong>Calderon<\/strong> \u2014 the most stable roster of the four, and the only team we would lay a price on.<\/li><li><strong>Redcliff<\/strong> \u2014 added size, lost shooting. Ellisford are the most damaged and the most likely to be over-corrected against by the second round. Redcliff and Bayside are close enough that the market is right to price them as it has \u2014 the value there is in the totals, not the sides.<\/p><h2 id=\"the-pick-this-comes-down-to\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The pick this comes down to<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our model projects a 151.8 total for the first semi-final with a standard error of 5.9.
