The Meridian Academy<\/p>

Founded at Fairlow in 2004, the academy runs ten age groups from Under 9 to Under 21. Six of the current first team came through it, and nine players have made a competitive debut since 2019.<\/p>

The same 4-2-3-1 from Under 9 to the first team, so a promotion changes the level and not the job.<\/p><\/div><\/div>

Education, welfare and a mentor for every scholar. Twenty-two of twenty-four scholars are in full-time study.<\/p><\/div><\/div>

From six to the first team<\/p>

Player Pathway<\/span><\/h2>

Six stages. Most players join at nine or twelve; a handful arrive at sixteen from other academies.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n

    Development centres<\/h3>Ages 6\u20138<\/span>

    Weekly sessions at four sites across the city. No registration, and no commitment either way.<\/p><\/li>

  2. 02<\/span>

    Foundation phase<\/h3>Ages 9\u201311<\/span>

    Registered academy football, two sessions and a match each week at Fairlow.<\/p><\/li>

  3. 03<\/span>

    Youth development<\/h3>Ages 12\u201316<\/span>

    Three sessions a week, school partnerships and the first competitive league fixtures.<\/p><\/li>

  4. 04<\/span>

    Scholarship<\/h3>Age 16<\/span>

    Two-year full-time scholarship with education on site and Under 18 football.<\/p><\/li>

  5. 05<\/span>

    Professional deal<\/h3>Ages 17\u201319<\/span>

    A first professional contract and Under-21 football, with first-team training when ready.<\/p><\/li>

  6. 06<\/span>

    First team<\/h3>19 and up<\/span>

    Training with the first team, a squad number and a competitive debut.<\/p><\/li><\/ol>\n\n
